ORD 096 ORDINANCE NO. 96
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES AMENDING
THE PLUMBING CODE RELATING TO GALVANIZED IRON, WROUGHT
IRON, AND STEEL AND AMENDING THE RANCHO PALOS VERDES
MUNICIPAL CODE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1: Chapter 3 of Article VIII of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal
Code is amended by adding Section 8304 to read:
8304: Amendment to Plumbing Code. Notwithstanding the provisions of
Section 8300, the Plumbing Code is amended by amending Section 1004 to read:
Section 1004--Materials
(a) Water pipe and fittings shall be of brass, copper, cast iron, lead
or other approved materials. Asbestos-cement, PE, or PVC water pipe manufactured
to recognized standards may be used for cold water distribution systems outside a
building. All materials used in the water supply system, except valves and similar
devices shall be of a like material, except where otherwise approved by the Adminis-
trative Authority.
(b) Piping and tubing which has previously been used for any purpose
other than for potable water systems shall not be used.
(c) Prohibited Materials. Galvanized malleable iron, galvanized
wrought iron and galvanized steel are prohibited materials.
Section 2: The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is a seacoast community
subject to the corrosive effect of salt air and to excessively corrosive soil.
Pursuant to Section 17958.5 of the Health and Safety Code of the State
of California, the City Council hereby finds that the changes and modifications
of the Uniform Plumbing Code, 1976 Edition, prepared by the International Associa-
tion of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, made in the County of Los Angeles
Plumbing Code and made by this ordinance are needed, being reasonably necessary
because of local conditions.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 14th day of March 1978,
